GENDER MAINSTREAMING BY gender practitioners in humanitarian emergencies: A SCOPING REVIEW
GENDER MAINSTREAMING BY gender practitioners in humanitarian emergencies: A SCOPING REVIEW
There is limited critical evidence on how gender mainstreaming is conducted as a technical practice by gender practitioners in emergency operations. In this project, I seek to map the current state of the literature on gender mainstreaming in humanitarian action and interview gender specialists at different tiers of the humanitarian architecture to understand what we are currently doing at a field level and whether we as a gender workers believe our current approaches are effective. The impetus for this project was based on my experience working for international non-government organisations in the humanitarian sector.
This project is currently being implemented. I have completed interviews with gender practitioners and will next be holding validation workshops based on the scoping review and analysis of the interview data.

STUDY ON THE CAPABILITIES AND CAPACITIES OF YOUNGER ADOLESCENT BOYS IN EMERGENCIES
STUDY ON THE CAPABILITIES AND CAPACITIES OF YOUNGER ADOLESCENT BOYS IN EMERGENCIES
In the main, there has been limited academic research on the gender and age specific needs of younger adolescent boys (aged 10 to 14 years) in humanitarian emergencies. However, this is a key period in their physical, social, and cognitive development that can have long-lasting implications over their life-course. In this project I am looking to work with public health and child protection organisations to develop a multi-country study that uses participatory research techniques to understand what assets, capabilities, and capacities younger adolescent boys need in the aftermath of an emergency and how we can best address this through structured programming. This also includes their relationships with adolescent girls, and how we can work to both prevent violence happening against them and their perpetration of it against the women and girls in their lives.
This project is in the concept development phase, with consultations being conducted with key child protection organisations.
